Activities
Special
activities are arranged every day during the school holidays.
These include; pony days, games days, half day hacks,
fun days and jumping or dressage clinics. Additional events
are arranged for members of the Darrington branch of the
Pony Club which is open to all to join. Call for further
details and to find out what is currently arranged.
Our
own your own pony days are extremely popular and places
are usually booked up well in advance. The day involves
the children learning about the daily care of a pony,
such as grooming, tacking up and mucking out as well of
course as the riding. Each child is allocated a riding
school pony for the day to care for as their own. Firstly
they bring the ponies in from the field and then groom
and tack up ready for a riding lesson. After their lesson
the children clean out the stables and make sure their
ponies are comfortable.
After
lunch the children have a ride out around our fields and
once they return to the yard they spend the remainder
of the day caring for their pony. This will include cleaning
out stables, washing manes & tails, cleaning tack,
feeding and turning out.
These
days are suitable for all standards of rider. The children
are fully supervised throughout the day
Children's
Mornings are similar to pony days where the children learn
the basics of pony care and also enjoy a ride. These sessions
are aimed at the younger children that may not be able
to stay for the whole day. On arrival at the yard the
children help to groom and tack up their pony and then
have either a riding lesson or a hack out around our fields.
After their ride the children help to care for their ponies
by helping with jobs such as mucking out, washing tails
and cleaning saddles.
These
sessions are suitable for children from aged 6
On
games days children help
bring in their ponies and then groom and tack up. They
spend the morning playing mounted games such as bending
(weaving in & out of cones). Walk, trot and lead &
egg and spoon races.(Carrying potatoes and dropping them
in buckets) plus many more. After lunch the children race
again to win rosettes.
Games
Days are suitable for all standards of rider.
Our
fun days are aimed at the more experienced rider.
Children bring in their pony from the field and groom
and tack up. The morning is spent playing gymkhana games
After lunch there is a jumping session where the pupils
learn to ride their pony over show jumps and then a round
of chase me Charlie where who ever jumps the highest jump
wins a rosette.
Riders
must be able to trot, canter & jump quite capably
to take part on the fun days
Others
activities include Picnic Rides, Treasure Hunts, Half
Day Hacks, Show jump Schooling and XC clinics.
All activities
are advertised prior to each school holiday. If you would
like the information e-mailing to you please send us your
details or call the Centre on 01977 792299

Adult
Activities
We run a number adult activities to complement
the usual weekly lessons or hacks, these include; Regular
dressage and jumping clinics, pub hacks, adult summer
camp and a horse ownership course, for those who feel
they may consider owning their own horse. This covers
all aspects of horse ownership, and of course involves
riding too. Adults are also able to hire horses to compete
on show days at Darrington.
